What they do
The Ecotourism and Conservation Society of Sikkim, known as ECOSS, is a Gangtok based organisation founded in January 2001 that works on sustainable tourism, community empowerment and biodiversity conservation across the state. Its own site describes it as a registered body recognised by the Government of Sikkim as an independent, non political, not for profit non-governmental organisation. Its work covers community based tourism, education programmes, water management and conservation, and it is associated with the Sikkim Himalayan Homestay programme and the Zero Waste Himalaya alliance. It organised the South Asian Regional Conference on Ecotourism in 2002. Its chairman is Prem Das Rai and its chief executive is Rajendra P. Gurung.
