    What they do

The Khangchendzonga Conservation Committee is a community based conservation society at Yuksom in west Sikkim, at the trailhead of the Yuksom to Dzongri route into Khangchendzonga National Park. It was registered under the Societies Act in June 1997 and works on conservation of the Khangchendzonga landscape together with livelihoods for the villages on its fringe. Its programmes include training in pottery and cooking, support for homestay operators, waste management on the trekking trail and awareness workshops. With the Sikkim Forest Department and the Mountain Institute it studied the ecotourism impact of the Yuksom to Dzongri trek between 1990 and 2005, and it co-organised the first biodiversity festival held in Yuksom.
