What they do
Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl is a women's organisation founded in Aizawl in 1974 and registered as a society under registration number 5 of 1977 under the Societies Registration Act 1860. It campaigned for reform of Mizo customary law and was instrumental in the passage of the Mizo Marriage, Divorce and Inheritance of Property Act 2014. At the grassroots it intervenes in cases of domestic violence and family breakdown and supports unmarried mothers and survivors of sexual violence. It also provides counselling, vocational training and small scale financial assistance to women. It received the Nari Shakti Puraskar from the Government of India in 2016.
