    What they do

Sikkim Viklang Sahayata Samiti is a disability service organisation in Gangtok, founded by Draupadi Ghimiray, a nurse who left the profession after her father lost a leg to gangrene. It fits and distributes artificial limbs and hands, including a locally made below knee prosthesis modelled on the Jaipur Foot, and arranges free cleft palate and post burn surgery. It also runs training and employment support for people with disabilities. Ghimiray was awarded the Padma Shri for social work in 2019 for her work with persons with disabilities. The organisation is registered at number 1168 under Sikkim notification 2602 A/H and receives annual grants from the state Social Justice, Empowerment and Welfare Department.
