    What they do

Centre for Ecology and Rural Development (CERD) is a public charitable trust founded in 1994 by the Pondicherry Science Forum and Tamil Nadu Science Forum to carry out rural development work in and around Puducherry. It runs programmes in natural resource management, watershed development, organic farming, biogas and renewable energy, drinking water, sanitation, and women's micro-enterprises, and has extended some project work into Madurai and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu. Its field station, Kalanjiyam, is located in Bahour in Puducherry district. CERD also built one of India's early village information centres, the Samadhan Kendra, to deliver local-language digital services to rural communities.
