    What they do

ISMAT is an all women led voluntary organisation based in Port Blair that works on women's and children's welfare. It was already active by May 2019, when its founding president Shahnaz Jadwet presented its first Women of Substance recognition programme and released a survey on the status of women in the city, prepared with two researchers from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Leadership later passed to president Shirin Jadwet and general secretary Rasheeda Peer, under whom the group has run substance use seminars, parenting workshops, girls' summer camps, breast cancer awareness drives and health camps for children in orphanages. Press coverage of its programmes continues through 2025.
