    What they do

    The Akanksha Foundation is an education NGO started by Shaheen Mistri, who ran the first Akanksha learning centre in Mumbai in 1989 and formally established the foundation in 1991. It runs Akanksha Schools of Excellence, English-medium schools operated in partnership with municipal corporations, across Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur, focusing on learning outcomes and life skills for children from low-income communities. The foundation reports operating 26-28 schools reaching over 14,000 students. Shaheen Mistri later also founded Teach For India.
