    What they do

    Bethany Society is a secular charitable society founded in 1981 in the East Garo Hills of Meghalaya and now run from a main office at Arai Mile in New Tura, with a second office in Shillong. It works with persons with disabilities and the rural poor through inclusive education, both institutional and community based rehabilitation, inclusive skill development training and sustainable livelihood programmes in handicrafts, organic farming, animal husbandry and knitting. It works across the Garo Hills, the Khasi Hills and the Jaintia Hills, and it fields a team in national blind football tournaments. It was registered with the Registrar of Societies in December 1981 under number SR/BS-223/81 and holds FCRA registration number 214250065. It was founded by Sister Rosario Lopez, who led it until her death in 2024.
