    What they do

Deccan Development Society is a grassroots society working with roughly 5,000 Dalit and other marginalised women farmers organised into village-level sanghams in the Zaheerabad region of Telangana. It promotes rainfed, biodiverse millet farming, community grain banks and seed funds, and links farmer collectives to local markets for food security. It also runs community health, nutrition and alternate-education programmes, and its dryland millet work won the UNDP Equator Prize in 2019. The society's administrative office is in Begumpet, Hyderabad, with its field operations centred on Zaheerabad in Sangareddy district (formerly part of Medak district).
