What they do
Pingalwara, formally the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society, is a charitable society founded in Amritsar in 1947 by Bhagat Puran Singh to shelter destitute, disabled and mentally ill people abandoned by their families. It runs a residential home for roughly a thousand residents, five schools, a dispensary, a prosthetic and rehabilitation centre, and a printing press. Dr Inderjit Kaur has led the society as patron-president since Bhagat Puran Singh's death in 1992, and it has branches in several Punjab towns as well as New Delhi and Chandigarh.
