What they do
Pratham began work in Mumbai in 1994 as a joint initiative with UNICEF to improve access to education for children in slum communities, and its Mumbai trust was registered on 11 January 1995. It has since grown into one of India's largest education NGOs, running early childhood, remedial learning, digital literacy and vocational training programmes. It publishes the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), a nationwide household survey of children's schooling and learning levels. Pratham works through a network of linked entities, including the Pratham Mumbai Education Initiative Trust and Pratham Education Foundation, the Section 8 company incorporated in 2002 that is recorded here as the legal entity. It now reaches children across roughly 25 Indian states and union territories.
