What they do
YouthNet is a Kohima-based non-governmental organisation, registered as a society under the Registration of Societies Act 1860, founded on 1 February 2006 by Hekani Jakhalu to create business and employment opportunities for young people in Nagaland. It runs programmes across education, employment and livelihoods, entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability, including the 'Made in Nagaland' retail and e-commerce platform for local artisan and food products and facilitation of the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme. By 2018 the organisation had a staff of about 30 and reported having assisted roughly 23,500 people; it now also operates from an office in Chumoukedima. Founder Hekani Jakhalu received the Nari Shakti Puraskar for this work in 2018 and stepped back from day-to-day leadership in 2023; the organisation is now led by director Nuneseno Chase.
