What they do
Hand in Hand India is a not-for-profit public charitable trust founded in Kancheepuram in 2002 by Dr Kalpana Sankar and Dr Percy Barnevik, originally to rescue and rehabilitate bonded child labourers in the silk-weaving belt. It has since grown into a livelihoods organisation working on women's self-help groups and enterprise creation, child-labour elimination and education, skill and technology training, and basic healthcare and sanitation. It reports having supported the creation of millions of jobs over two decades and now operates in around 20 Indian states as well as several other countries.
