    What they do

Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) is a non-governmental organisation founded in Leh in 1988 by a group of young Ladakhis, including Sonam Wangchuk, to reform the region's government school system. It runs an alternative residential campus near Phey village outside Leh for students who have not cleared standard board exams, combining academic catch-up with vocational and practical skills training. The campus buildings use passive solar heating and other low-cost sustainable construction techniques developed by SECMOL. Padma Othsal currently serves as director, and the organisation is governed by a student-elected board of Ladakhi youth.
