What they do
The Banyan provides mental health care and rehabilitation to homeless persons living with mental illness, combining clinical treatment with housing and social reintegration programmes. It was founded in Chennai in 1993 by Vandana Gopikumar and Vaishnavi Jayakumar. The organisation runs emergency care centres and its 'Home Again' community reintegration model, and has since expanded programmes to other Indian states. It also trains mental health workers through an affiliated academy.
